DOJ/Election Crimes Branch Institutional Resistance to AG Barr’s Post-Election Investigation Directive (US)

Established Fact

DOJ Election Crimes Branch Director Richard Pilger resigned on November 9, 2020 – the same day AG Barr authorized U.S. Attorneys to investigate substantial allegations of election irregularities prior to certification. Fifteen District Election Officers (DEOs) subsequently wrote to AG Barr urging rescission of his memorandum, asserting no substantial allegations existed in their individual jurisdictions – a claim explicitly noted as limited to their districts, none of whom had been consulted before the policy change.
