Financial contributions delivered to a sitting judge while a case tied to the donating party is under active consideration merit further investigation.  Such timing and alignment create a strong appearance of impropriety, potentially violating judicial codes of conduct that require avoiding even the perception of bias, maintaining impartiality, and prohibiting conduct that undermines public confidence in the judiciary.
