CISA Integration Into Election Integrity Partnership to Flag and Suppress Domestic Election-Related Speech (US)

CISA coordinated with the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP) – a consortium including Stanford Internet Observatory, the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public, and affiliated entities – to identify and flag social media content about alleged election irregularities for platform removal. The EIP’s own published data indicated prominent conservatives’ speech was targeted. CISA used disclaimers that implicitly threatened companies with intelligence and law enforcement (FBI) reprisal if they failed to comply with content removal requests. The House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Government published findings on this coordination on June 26, 2023, and November 6, 2023.
