Disputed Fact
[Disputed Fact – As to whether failure was deliberate versus administrative] The January 6 Select Committee, chaired by Rep. Bennie Thompson and co-chaired by Rep. Liz Cheney, deliberately failed to archive critical witness transcripts – including transcripts of USSS agents – and failed to transmit numerous evidentiary records to the House Clerk before the Committee was dissolved in January 2023, in violation of House archival rules. The House Administration Committee subsequently confirmed that the Select Committee failed to properly preserve and transmit its full evidentiary record. Specifically, transcripts, video recordings, and records containing testimony that contradicted the Committee’s public narrative regarding President Trump’s role and regarding security failures were not archived.

House Administration Committee confirmed archival failure. The Select Committee’s position is that failures were administrative rather than deliberate. See House Administration Committee Interim Report, pp. 8-15.
Chairman Loudermilk (R-GA) released investigative reports documenting pattern of record non-preservation consistent with intentional destruction. See Loudermilk Second J6 Report (Dec. 2024).
Classification as Disputed Fact reflects that while archival failures are confirmed, whether they reflect deliberate destruction versus administrative oversight has not been adjudicated. The Select Committee has not publicly responded to Loudermilk’s characterization of the failures as intentional.
